Railways

Railways

One of my interests since I was young has been railways in general.

Before anyone gets worried (or as more likely start stereotyping me) I am not a train spotter, standing in an anorak ticking off train numbers as they go past does not really interest me. I generally class myself as a railway enthusiast.

Railways and Computers

It is possible to combine railways and computers quite well. Admittedly at the moment it is not possible to recreate the smell, but the sights and sounds can be recreated quite well.

MS Train Sim, Trainz Simulator, BVE (which is free) and Train Games, to name but four, give an chance of driving various trains at varying degrees of accuracy. SimSig gives you the chance to be a modern day signalman, with a almost fully prototypical interface. If you want to design railway networks then there is the traditional Railroad Tycoon and ATRAIN, more British ones like Railway Runner and lots of general transport network designers like Sim Trans and Transport Tycoon.
